The College of Letters, Arts and Sciences (CLAS) at MSU Denverinvites applications for the position of Assistant Dean forOperations. This is a 12-month appointment reporting to the SeniorAssociate Dean of the College of Letters, Art and Sciences.

Position Summary

The Assistant Dean for Operations works with the Dean’s leadershipteam to support the college’s business operations in realizing thevision, mission, strategies, and goals for CLAS.

These duties include various job functions related to:

  • Prioritizing needs, running business operation systems, andresource planning.
  • Providing technical and operational support for associatedeans, chairs, directors, faculty, and staff of CLAS.
  • Contributing to the day-to-day operations, function, andefficacy of CLAS and the Dean’s Office.
  • Supervising some administrative office support staff.
  • Serving as a representative of the Dean’s Office on universitycommittees or in university initiatives related to operationalaspects of the college.

The Assistant Dean for Operations is primarily focused on:

  • Carrying out college operational responsibilities as set by theDean of CLAS.
  • Providing resources and assisting the Associate Dean of Facultyand Student Affairs, department chairs, and faculty on annualevaluation systems for tenure-track faculty (CAT I) andnon-tenure-track faculty (CAT II).
  • Collaborating with the CLAS Associate Dean of Faculty andStudent Affairs on systems that support faculty development,evaluation, and the promotion process.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Associate Dean for Data andEnrollment Management on rooming for academic classes.
  • Providing resources and holding decision-making authority forthe College on the use of facilities and space on campus, classroomassignments, office space, etc.
  • Coordinating with MSU Denver Registrar’s Office, MSU DenverFacilities Planning Office, and AHEC on space, safety, andfacilities-related operations.

Responsibilities

Personnel Systems (40%)

  • Serve as the point of contact and operational expert onWatermark, the digital platform to which all faculty evaluationmaterials are uploaded.
  • Assist Executive Assistant to the Dean, Department Chairs, andDirectors with navigating faculty and staff hiring requests.
  • Collaborate with the CLAS Associate Dean of Faculty and StudentAffairs on support systems related to faculty development,evaluation, and the promotion process.
  • Serve as a resource to department chairs on administrativetasks pertaining to sabbatical leaves, leave-without-pay options,and emeritus status.

College/University’s Operations and Facilities Planning (40%)

  • Serve as the CLAS “point person” on the use of facilities andspace on campus, classroom assignments, office space, etc.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with MSU Denver Registrar’s Office,Administration and Finance Department, MSU Denver FacilitiesPlanning Office, and AHEC on space and facilities-relatedoperations.
  • Provide resources to offices and department chairs on campusoperations and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a robust communication plan to deliver facility andoperational policy, needs, and updates to the appropriateconstituent bases.

College Representation (20%)

  • Coordinate the formation of Dean’s Office-level servicecommittees.
  • Serve as lead on operationally oriented committees in thecollege.
  • Serve as the representative of the Dean’s Office on a varietyof committees related to operational aspects of the college.

Schedule Information

This is a full-time, exempt position. While this position isdesigned to support flexibility with both in-office work as well assome remote schedules, there is an expectation of working on campusat least three days a week .

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree – any discipline
  • A minimum of five years of university-level experience inoperations, systems, and/or coordination efforts for a largeorganization
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of adiverse urban student, faculty and staff population including, butnot limited to, people of color, LBGTQIA+ individuals, studentsfrom low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, individualswith differing abilities, undocumented students, nontraditionalstudents, student veterans, and English-language learners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree – any discipline
  • A minimum of three years of university/college-leveladministrative leadership experience in operations, systems, and/orcoordination efforts
  • Strong knowledge of academic operations
  • Strong communication and human relations skills
  • Experience implementing best practices to improve campuss*stems and business operations

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonableestimate of the compensation range for this role and should notoffer a salary outside of the range posted in this jobannouncement. This range takes into account a variety of factorsincluding but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge,abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis ofinternal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It isnot typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near thetop of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined basedon final candidate qualifications and experience.

The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay forthis position is $90,600 - $125,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denverbenefits.
